Developed by RESNET, the Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Index is the industry standard by which a home's energy efficiency is measured and the nationally recognized system for inspecting and calculating a home's energy performance.
A home rated on the HERS Index will be given a score based upon its energy performance as determined by a certified RESNET Home Energy Rater. The LOWER the score, the more energy efficient the home.
The U.S. Department of Energy has determined that a typical resale home scores 130 on the HERS Index while a standard new home is awarded a rating of 100. Therefore, a home scoring 70 on the HERS Index is 30% MORE energy efficient than a standard new home, and one scoring 130 will be 30% LESS efficient than a standard new home.
Peace of mind knowing your HERS Index score can pay. A low HERS
Index Score adds comfort and value to a home.
